Ingredients
- Sweet Potato (boiled and cut into pieces)
- Onion – 1 (chopped)
- Garlic – 3 cloves (chopped)
- Dried Red Chilies – 3
- Mustard Seeds – 1 tsp
- Urad Dal – 1 tbsp
- Curry Leaves – 1 sprig
- Paprika Powder – 1 tsp
- Curry Powder – 1 tbsp
- Cumin Powder – 1 tsp
- Salt – to taste
- Oil – as needed
- Water – a little (for cooking)
How to Make Sweet Potato Varuval

Boil the Sweet Potatoes
Cook the sweet potatoes until soft. Peel and cut into bite-sized pieces. -
Prepare the Tempering
Heat oil in a pan. Add mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add urad dal and fry until slightly golden. -
Sauté Aromatics
Add chopped onion and garlic. Sauté until fragrant. Then add curry leaves and dried red chilies. -
Add Sweet Potatoes
Add the boiled sweet potato pieces and gently mix. -
Add Spices
Add paprika powder, curry powder, cumin powder, salt, and a little water. Mix well. -
Cook & Serve
